Hey all. This months members practical astronomy session is on the subject of astrophotography.
[Aug 19, 2017] Member's Night: Practical talk (West Melton, Canterbury)

I'll be doing a bit about camera settings for use without a telescope, (widefield, night sky, aurora etc) then @Gary Steel will be doing the main segment on using the CAS telescopes with a camera.

For my part, it will be a bring your camera and tripod along and if the weather is suitable, we can practice afterwards. But I'd like to know if there are any specific questions or topics you'd like covered?

for me ..... whats the steps for correct data capture .. how do you time exposures and does it matter if its 2 or 3 mins or more ... what to do to make sure I have everything collected so I can process ... then what! Might take more than 1 session ... I'd be happy if Gary did some side sessions :) .. like whats the difference in say the differing packages .. nebulosity vs maxim DL vs say Pixinsight
... what to do to collect darks, flats correctly etc

kind of specialised maybe for the members nights but i think there's a lot of interest ..

That's definitely Gary's side of the talk - if he goes that deep. Bear in mind the topic is Astrophotography - a Beginner's Journey so that might be a few sessions down the line yet (y)

Look forward to it. You can come up on any clear night. As a member, you are not restricted to events and open nights. (y)

Jamie look out - I've seen that sawing the assistant in half trick .. impressive .. but I've only seen it ever performed with once with each assistant!
